Description

This is an early 19th-century milestone located opposite No. 33 Burnley Road in Sowerby Bridge. It is a monolith with a curved top, set into a wall. The milestone is inscribed with the distances to Todmorden (9 miles) and Halifax (2¾ miles), along with two hands indicating the directions. The Halifax to Todmorden and Burnley Turnpike Road Trust was established in 1760.
