Description

The Former Thorpe Mill is a building that dates back to 1824 and has been converted into apartments. It is constructed of coursed squared stone with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof. The building stands three storeys high with an attic and has nine bays.

The west front includes a central segmental-arched cart entry that has been converted into a window, framed by a rusticated surround, imposts, and a cornice. To the right, there is an inserted garage door. The windows have plain stone surrounds, with a cill band on the first floor. Each floor features a tripartite window above the cart entry, with sash windows that have glazing bars on the right-hand bays, while the other bays have fixed lights or 20th-century windows. The building has plain gutter brackets on the table.

The rear of the building mirrors the front, although the ground floor is obscured by a 20th-century addition, which is not of interest. There are small rectangular openings in the attic and a clock above the central tripartite windows that displays the date. The left side of the building has two blind windows on the third floor and a Venetian window in the attic, while the right side features a Venetian attic window.

To the south-east of the building, there is a former mill pond with a goit leading to another mill building that has since been demolished, along with a sluice to the river.
