Description
Unit 10, Mill House Estate is a mid-19th century mill building that is currently unoccupied and used as industrial premises. It is constructed of coursed squared stone, and although the roof is not visible, the building stands four storeys high with a layout of five by nine bays.
On the north front, there is a round-arched doorway on the left featuring a four-panel door and fanlight, alongside a segment-arched wagon entrance to its right. Both of these entrances have dropped keystones and are set within a rusticated ashlar panel that includes a cornice. To the right of the entrances, there is a door flanked by blocked windows. The first floor has six-pane windows, while the second floor features four-pane sash windows. The third floor has shorter four-pane sashes or six-pane windows, all equipped with stone lintels and projecting sills. The building is topped with a modillion cornice and has a modillion-corniced stack on the left.
The left return of the building shows that the four left-hand bays extend over the river, supported by triangular-section cutwaters. The windows in bays seven and eight are set lower on each floor. On the ground floor, there are three windows to the left, with other openings blocked. The first floor has a door to bay three, although the stair leading to it has been removed. The second floor features a doorway to bay five, while the third floor has taller windows in bays seven and eight compared to the other windows. The building also has a modillion cornice and is part of a mill complex, but it is in a state of dereliction at the time of the resurvey.
