Description
Numbers 1 and 2 Mill House Lodge are a pair of lodge cottages built in the late 19th century. They are constructed from rusticated stone and topped with a Welsh slate roof. The buildings have a symmetrical T-shaped plan and rise to two storeys.
The south front features three bays, with the central bay projecting as a wing. It has a plinth and contains a three-light window on each floor, along with oversailing eaves that have decorative bargeboards and a finial. Each side of the central bay has a chamfered quoined Tudor-arched doorway. The outer bays each include a single-light window at ground level and low oversailing eaves. The roof is covered with sanded fishscale slates, and there are stacks on the central gable and at the ridge where the cross range meets.
On the rear, there are chamfered quoined doorways at either end. The right return features a three-light window on each floor and oversailing eaves with decorative bargeboards. The left return, which faces the drive, has a canted bay window with a two-light window above, and its gable mirrors that of the right return.
These cottages were originally part of the former drive to Mill House, which has since been demolished, and they once served as the residence for the gardener and chauffeur.
