Description

Longley Farmhouse and Barn is a building located on Doldram Lane in Norland, likely dating from the mid-17th century, with later alterations and the addition of a barn range in the late 18th to early 19th century. The structure is built from coursed squared stone and features a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high and has a total of six first-floor windows. The farmhouse includes a two-storey rear outshut and a parallel range with a barn wing to the rear left.

The right side of the building has quoins, while the ground floor features double-chamfered mullion windows and flat-faced mullion windows on the first floor. The left bay, likely an addition, contains a blocked doorway next to a 1985 window, with two 2-light windows above. The rest of the house has a chamfered quoined doorway with a stepped soffit lintel on the left and a doorway with a plain stone surround on the right. There are a 3-light fire window and a 5-light window on the ground floor, along with a 3-light window on the first floor, which is set in the surround of a former 4-light chamfered mullion window, and three 2-light windows, with the two central ones also in former chamfered window surrounds. A stack is positioned on the ridge above the fire window.

On the right return, there is a 1-light window on the ground floor and two 2-light windows above, all with chamfered mullions. The left return features a 2-bay barn with a round-arched cart entry that has imposts, a keystone, and a small opening above. There is also a mistal door to the left, plain gutter brackets on the table, and coping on the left side. The interior has not been inspected, but it is reported to include a chamfered quoined doorway between the central and right-hand rooms, as well as a chamfered quoined shouldered-arched doorway leading from the central room to the outshut.
