Description

Bents Farmhouse and the attached barn are a laithehouse and barn combination dating from the early 19th century, with the barn being slightly later. The buildings are constructed from coursed squared stone and feature a stone slate roof. The laithehouse has been formed into a separate dwelling with access from the rear and stands two storeys tall.

The laithehouse consists of a one-bay section to the right of a three-bay laithe, with a cottage located in the rear of the right-hand bay. The barn is attached to the left of the three bays. Openings in the buildings have plain stone surrounds, and the windows feature flat-faced mullions. The house has a four-panel door to the left of a three-light window on each floor and end stacks. The barn includes a central segmental-arched cart entry with imposts and a keystone, a doorway at the left end, and single-light windows flanking the cart entry, with three additional single-light windows on the first floor. The attached barn has a central bonded round-arched cart entry with a raised keystone, doorways at either end with former two-light windows on the inside of each, a small window above the cart entry, plain gutter brackets, and coping on the left gable.

At the rear, the laithehouse features, from left to right, a four-panel door flanked by three-light windows on each floor, a six-panel door, and a former three-light window. The attached barn has a central doorway and windows at either end that have been converted into doors.
