Description
Higher Scout is a laithe house with added cottages, dating from the early 19th century. It is constructed of large coursed hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys. To the left is a cottage with one bay, followed by the barn and cottage that form the core of the laithe house, and then two additional cottages, each with one bay. All the windows are flat faced and mullioned. The first bay has quoins, a three-light stepped window, and a doorway with tie-stones that bears the date 1825 on the lintel. Above this doorway are two two-light windows, although this bay lacks a roof. The barn includes a semi-circular arched cart entry, with a doorway next to the three-light stepped window. Above this doorway is a large two-light window. The added cottages have a lower roof level, each featuring doorways with sill ties and a three-light window above, which is topped by a wide two-light window. There are two stacks on the ridge, located to the right of the laithe house and between the cottages.
