Description
Upper Merry Bent is a laithe-house built around 1770. It is constructed from thin coursed hammer dressed stone with dressed quoins and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and a single storey outshut at the rear. It has two bays of two-light thin flat faced mullioned windows, with the first bay set back. To the left of a single light window, there is a doorway with a segmental arched lintel and monolithic jambs that have a chamfered surround. There are two additional windows on the first floor, all of which have altered glazing. A cart entry with a segmental arched lintel and composite jambs is also present. The aisle breaks forward under a cat-slide roof, and the main range has two well-dressed stacks at the ridge.
