Description

Thirst House is a late 17th-century house located on Lighthazles Road, near Soyland. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The house comprises two main cells with a single-storey aisle or outshut to the rear. The front of the house has two storeys, while the aisle has a single storey. The first cell features a double-chamfered mullioned window of four lights to both floors, though two mullions are missing. The second cell has five-light windows; the ground floor window is chamfered mullioned, while the first-floor window is double-chamfered mullioned. A doorway with a straight lintel and stop-chamfered surround is also present on the second cell. Quoins detail the corners of the building. The left-hand return wall has an attached circa 19th-century outshut of minimal architectural interest, and a three-light chamfered mullioned window to the first floor, positioned just under the roof at the junction with the aisle. The right-hand return wall exhibits a four-light chamfered mullioned window with a former two-light window above to the first floor, alongside a 20th-century inserted doorway. The rear of the house is largely blind. A single stack rises from the ridge of the roof.
