Description
Little Merry Bent is a house now divided into two occupations, primarily dating from the mid-18th century but featuring some 17th-century chamfered mullioned windows, which may have been reused. The building is constructed of thin coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and has a stone slate roof. It stands two storeys high and has two bays of thin flat-faced mullioned windows with four lights, one of which has been opened to form a doorway. Above these, there are similar windows on the first floor, along with a five-light window and another similar window above it. An added bay features single sashed windows with plain stone surrounds and projecting sills. The left-hand return wall has a three-light chamfered mullioned window on the first floor, although it is missing its mullions. The rear of the building is L-shaped, with an outshut that contains altered chamfered mullioned windows and a doorway with monolithic jambs, as well as a gabled porch with a blocked doorway also featuring monolithic jambs. Attached to the right-hand return wall is a mid-20th-century single-storey brick extension with a doorway leading to the second cottage.
