Description

Great House Farmhouse is a house that was initialled and dated "RH 1622 SH". It retains part of its front facade, which was recast when the rear and sides were rebuilt around 1800. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with a stone slate roof and has two storeys. It has been remodelled into two cells with a central doorway featuring an ogee lintel and a cornice above, which is inscribed. The doorway has renewed jambs.

The windows are all double chamfered mullioned types with arched lights and sunken spandrels. Notable features include a 12-light mullioned and transomed window with a hoodmould that has cyma moulding and heart-shaped stops, as well as a 5-light window. On the first floor, there are 4-light windows on either side of one of the 2-light windows. The building has gutter brackets, coped gables with kneelers, and well-dressed stacks. The front displays high-quality masonry, while the rear is made of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar quoins. The rear also features chamfered mullioned windows, including a 3-light window with a similar window above on the first floor and 2-light windows on either side. An attached building at the south-west end, known as Rock Ville, is of no interest and is excluded from the listing.
