Description
Multum in Parvo is a house located on Corsham Road in Melksham Without. It was built between the early and late 19th century, with a datestone in the gable displaying the initials S. H. and the year 1808. The house features ashlar facing on the gable and the right side, while the rest is constructed from rubblestone. It has a stone slate roof with coped verges, kneelers, and a finial, along with ashlar axial stacks.
The entrance is located in the gable facing the street, and the house is designed in an L-shape with a later 19th-century wing on the left. It stands two storeys tall and has one window. The ground floor is rusticated, featuring a plat band and a wrought iron canopy. There is a 20th-century door in a moulded architrave to the left and a 12-pane sash window to the right. The first floor has a 12-pane sash window, and there is a string course at the eaves level. Above, in the gable, is a small attic casement with the datestone above it.
The right side of the house includes 20th-century French windows and two 12-pane sash windows, along with a plat band and cornice below the parapet. The later 19th-century wing on the left also stands two storeys tall, featuring 4-pane sash windows and a blocked door on the left gable. There is a 19th-century outshut at the rear. The interior has been altered and lacks contemporary features, but it appears that the later wing was used for services and contains back stairs. The ashlar front and return likely cover an earlier house, though no internal features from that period remain.
