Description
Whitley House is a house that dates from the late 17th century to the late 19th century. The front is made of ashlar stone and features rusticated quoins and a stone slate roof with ashlar stacks, while the returns and rear are constructed of rubblestone. The house has a square plan and stands two storeys tall with five windows. A central Classical porch leads to a glass door, with two 2-pane sash windows in plain cases on either side. The first floor has five sash windows. There is a moulded cornice and a plain parapet.
The left return dates from the late 17th or 18th century and has a gable that rises three storeys, featuring 2-light ovolo mullioned windows with drip moulds. The wing on the left has a central door with a moulded architrave and a stone flat hood supported by brackets, with one 12-pane sash window in a moulded case on either side. The first floor has two 12-pane sashes in moulded cases, and the central Cotswold-type attic gable includes one 2-light ovolo mullioned window with a drip mould. The roof of the rear wing has saddleback coped verges. The right return is the gable of a 19th-century wing that runs parallel to the entrance front and has two storeys with 12-pane sashes. The interior is not accessible.
