Description
Rough Hey Farmhouse is a farmhouse with an attached barn and cottage, now all combined into one structure. The house likely dates from the mid-18th century and was divided into two parts in the early 19th century, with the cottage added in the late 18th century. It is built of coursed squared stone and has a stone slate roof.
The farmhouse is two stories high and has two bays, with a three-bay barn to the right and a two-story cottage with two first-floor windows on the left. The openings have plain stone surrounds, and the windows feature flat-faced mullions. The house has quoins on the left side, an original door on the left, and a later door at the right end. Each bay has a two-light window on both floors, which were formerly fitted with more mullions, and there is a central ridge stack.
The barn has a central cart entry with a monolithic lintel, and there is a 20th-century garage attached, which is not of interest. The cottage has a door that has been converted into a window on the left, with a three-light window to the right, and a two-light and three-light window above. The ridge stack is also present. At the rear, the house features two four-light windows on each floor, although the right bay now has a two-light window. The cottage has a three-light window to the left of the door.
