Description

The railings, gates, and gate piers surrounding the Church of St George were likely built between 1839 and 1840, coinciding with the construction of the church. They are made from coursed squared stone, ashlar, and cast iron. The railings enclose the churchyard on all sides except the southwest, where there are later railings that are not of special interest.

The gates located in front of the western tower door and the eastern priest's door are two-leaf gates featuring arrow-headed bars and dog-bars, with main bars topped by urn finials. These gates are mounted on monolithic ashlar piers that are square in section, adorned with sunk panels and capped with corniced pyramids. A dwarf wall with chamfered ashlar coping supports the railings, which also feature arrow-headed bars and urn-finialed standards. Additionally, there is a single-leaf gate at the southernmost angle.
