Description

54 Sowerby Street is a house dated 'ISS 1672', constructed from coursed squared stone with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and a partial basement, featuring two first-floor windows, though it originally extended further to the left. The basement, located on the right, has quoins on the right side and two chamfered quoined openings; the left opening has a later mullion and windows, while the right has a boarded door. There is a plinth at the base.

On the ground floor, there are two steps leading up to a boarded door set in a quoined, stop-chamfered moulded, ogee-arched doorway with a dated lintel. To the right of this door are two double-chamfered windows that were originally cross-windows. A moulded band runs along the building. On the first floor, there are two shorter windows similar to those below, featuring sixteen-pane sashes. An end stack is located on the right side. At the rear, there are two similar first-floor windows with sashes and glazing bars.

This house was the last meeting place of the Quaker Community in Sowerby Bridge.
