Description

The Old Hall Farmhouse is a house dating to 1647 and 1658. It is constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof. The house is composed of two distinct builds: an earlier two-storey, two-bay house with a rear outshut and lobby-entrance plan to the right, and a wider cross wing of two storeys with attics to the left. A 20th-century board door features moulded and quoined jambs, with a date plaque inscribed "1647" and a dripmould partly obscured by ivy to the left of the earlier wing. Chamfered mullion windows are recessed throughout, with two-light windows originally four-light to the ground floor, featuring fixed small-pane windows, and two- and three-light windows to the first floor. The right side has a kneeler and gable coping. The left bay contains a six-light window with a central king mullion to both the ground and first floors, benefiting from a continuous dripmould above. An oval attic window with a dripmould sits above shallow consoles. Shaped kneelers, gable copings, and pyramidal finials are present. A large banded stack crosses the ridge above the door, with a smaller, corniced stack to the right. The right return side features two two-light windows to the ground floor, a two-light window with a spiral-stopped hoodmould to the first floor, and a narrow light to the outshut. Two single-light windows are visible to the gable, with the left-hand light blocked. A moulding at sill level displays spiral stops. The interior was not inspected during a resurvey.
