Description

Two houses, Clifton Cottage and Ash Tree Cottage, date back to the 17th century with alterations made in the mid-to-late 18th century. They are constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof. The houses are two storeys high and each have two bays. Quoins are present. Clifton Cottage, on the left, features a 20th-century glazed door with tie-stone jambs. It has a three-light recessed chamfered mullion window to the left and a flat-faced mullion window above. Shaped kneelers and gable coping are visible on the left-hand side. Ash Tree Cottage, to the right, has a half-glazed four-panel door with tie-stone jambs. It features paired sixteen-pane sash windows in plain surrounds to the left and a four-light recessed chamfered mullion window above. Shaped kneelers and gable coping are on the right, with a large, banded ridge stack composed of two builds located centrally. The interior was not inspected during a recent review.
