Description

Field End is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It dates from the early to mid-17th century and was converted into cottages in the 19th century, with restoration occurring around 1980. The building is constructed from coursed squared stone and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays, along with a two-bay rear outshut and quoins.

The front elevation includes double-chamfered mullion windows. In the first bay, the ground floor is obscured by a 20th-century conservatory, which is not of special interest. There is a 20th-century doorway, a three-light window to the left, and a 20th-century three-light single-chamfered mullion window above. The second bay features a four-light window and a two-light fire window beneath a continuous hoodmould with a star stop, along with a 20th-century four-light single-chamfered mullion window above. The third bay has a three-light window on each floor, with the ground-floor window having a hoodmould.

There are two ridge stacks, and at the rear, the outshut on the left has a stack at the eaves on the right. The right bay includes a two-light window on the ground floor. Inside, the central room contains one stop-chamfered spine beam and a stop-chamfered quoined doorway leading to the outshut. There is also one king-post roof truss located between the first and second bays, with a tie-beam that has a grooved soffit to support a former partition, and trenched through purlins.
