Description

Causeway Farmhouse, dating from the early 18th century, has been converted into two cottages. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof and stands two storeys high. The building features quoins and a moulded stone gutter. The front has a three-cell layout, with a chamfered mullioned window of three lights (though the mullions have been removed) and a four-light window above it (also missing two mullions). There is a doorway with a basket arched lintel and chamfered jambs; the right jambs have a large tie-stone and are older than those on the left.

In the second cell, there is a double chamfered mullioned window with seven lights (lacking two mullions) and a six-light chamfered mullioned window above (also missing two mullions). A doorway with a plain stone surround leads into a through passage. The third cell has double chamfered mullioned windows of four lights (lacking two mullions), with a chamfered mullioned window of four lights above it (also missing two mullions).

The rear of the building features broad flat-faced mullioned windows of two and three lights, along with four doorways; the leftmost doorway leads to a single-cell cottage that is partly built over the barn, creating a rear of four cells. The attached barn, which projects forward, has a straight lintel for the cart entry, with the rear inscribed 'IMK 1711' set within a tressure. The mistal doorways have stop-chamfered surrounds. The house has three stacks along its ridge, and it is likely that the barn and house were built around the same time.
