Description

Brink Top Farmhouse is an early 18th century house, originally a single-story building which was later raised to two stories in the 18th century. The south front is constructed of watershot masonry, while the east gable is of larger, random stone. The house consists of three cells. The two-cell section has quoins, with additional quoins at the west end of the later added cell. The first cell has two flat-faced mullioned windows of two lights each, with matching windows above. The second cell features a six-light flat-faced mullioned window, with two two-light windows above. The third cell has a three-light window with a two-light window above. A chamfered mullioned two-light window is visible on the return wall of the earlier section, although it is now blocked. Two gable stacks are present, along with an additional stack located at the junction of the first and second cells. The rear elevation incorporates large, coursed stone on the first floor and watershot masonry on the second. A blocked single chamfered light is also present. An added gabled porch, set at a right angle, includes a gable chimney. Inside the porch, a corbelled flue sits above a bakestone - a rare survival - and there is also a stone sink. Above the porch entry to the main range is a three-light chamfered mullioned window. The added cell, built with watershot masonry, has a five-light flat-faced mullioned window with a four-light window above. The interior retains two fireplaces with stone shelves, one featuring a cast iron range.
