Description

Flail Croft is a house dating from the mid-17th century, situated off Parkin Lane in Todmorden. Constructed of finely dressed stone and covered with a stone slate roof, it is a two-story, two-cell gable-entry house. The front elevation features a weathered plinth and a continuous hoodmould over the ground-floor windows. These windows are double-chamfered, comprising 6 lights, 5 lights, and a fire-window of 2 lights. Above are further chamfered windows of 4, 2, and 2 lights. The gables are coped with kneelers and stacks. The right-hand gable wall includes a single-story gabled porch with kneelers and a chamfered, basket-headed entry. A 3-light, double-chamfered mullioned window sits above the porch. Attached to the rear wall is a single-story outshut from the early 18th century, with a cat-slide roof and chamfered mullioned windows of 3 lights and 2 lights. Inside, the former parlour retains a triangular-headed fireplace, characterised by a simple chamfer and hollow spandrels.
