Description
This building, located at right angles to No. 3 North Scaitcliffe, is a washhouse or possibly a peat coat dating from the early 18th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar quoins and features a single-pitched stone slate roof. The building stands two storeys high and has a five-light chamfered mullioned window that has been altered to three lights, retaining old glazing and a sash. Above this window, there is another window with a chamfered surround. The doorway includes tie-stones. On the right-hand return wall, there is a first-floor door entry with raised jambs, which is accessed by a flight of stone steps. Inside, there are four large flat arched openings with projecting shelves that may have been fireplaces, although they do not have flues. The building is listed for its group value.
