Description

This milestone, dating from the mid 19th century, is located 50 meters south of Ringstone Royd on Saddleworth Road in Barkisland. It features an arched stone structure that is overlaid with cast iron and has two angled faces. The top of the milestone reads "ELLAND & SADDLEWORTH ROAD BARKISLAND." The left face indicates "JUNCTION 8 MILES" while the right face states "ROCHDALE 4½ MILES" and "ELLAND 14 MILES."
