Description

This milestone, located 20 meters to the west of Pike Plain in Barkisland, dates from the mid-19th century. It is made of a single stone that is overlaid with cast iron, featuring a semi-circular head and two angled faces. The top of the milestone reads "ELLAND & SADDLEWORTH ROAD BARKISLAND." The left face indicates "ELLAND," while the right face shows "JUNCTION 5 ½ MILES" and "ROCHDALE 7 MILES" and "13 MILES."
