Description

The wheelhouse on the east bank of Ringstone Edge Reservoir was built in 1886 and designed by engineer Thomas Hawksley from Wakefield. This cylindrical structure is constructed of rockfaced stone and ashlar. It features an arched doorway with an expressed keystone, a heavy ashlar cornice, and a hemi-spherical dome that is topped by a solid parapet with an iron crown. The building is a notable example of the masonry traditions of the area.
