Description
The house at Swithland Reservoir Water Works was built in 1896 by Hawkesley of London. It is constructed of red brick with stone banding, featuring stone-coped shouldered gables and a slate roof with stone-banded ridges and side stacks. This two-storey building is designed in the 'Queen Anne' style and has sash windows, most of which are adorned with moulded stone surrounds and architraves.
The front facade has two gables with a recessed central section that includes a two-arched arcade and a two-light dormer with top lights in the roof. Within the arcade, there are two doors, both with steps and stone surrounds: a single door on the left and a two-leaved part-glazed door on the right. The left gable features a canted bay with three 6/6 sash windows and a 6/6 sash above, while the right gable has a tripartite sash window arrangement of 4/4, 6/6, and 4/4, with the Leicester City crest above and an additional 6/6 sash above that. Stone obelisks are positioned on the shoulders of the gables.
On the left end, there is a blocked door, a pair of 6/6 sashes, and another 6/6 sash above. The right end has two one-light windows with a 6/6 sash above. The left gable at the rear is similar to the right front gable, with additional sash windows. Extending from the right is a one-storey outhouse, followed by another. A ridge stack is located on the first. The complex is set in a park-like environment with a variety of trees and shrubs, and it has group value with other structures at Swithland Reservoir Water Works.
