Description
The entrance gates, piers, and walling at Swithland Reservoir Water Works were built in 1896 by Hawkesley of London. They are constructed from red and blue brick, dressed stone, and wrought iron. The design features a pair of low walls that form a quarter circle with a convex curve, leading to a pair of piers with gates situated between them. The walls are made of red and blue brick, topped with stone coping, and have three panels of wrought iron work above, decorated with scrolls and ovals. The banded piers at the ends are also topped with dentilled stone coping and a stone urn. The gate piers are similar in style, featuring a stone obelisk on an urn base. The wrought iron gates are more elaborate than the wall panels. The entrance is positioned to the right of the lodge, and the entire complex is set in a park-like environment with a selection of trees and shrubs. This structure has group value with other features at Swithland Reservoir Water Works.
