Description

Wormald Farmhouse is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with an added porch and a rear kitchen wing that is dated 1693. The south front features large dressed stone, while the rear and sides are made of hammer dressed stone, topped with a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has a double-pile layout. The original south front had a three-room plan, with the jambs to the through-passage still visible, although the service end has been removed. The surviving parlour and housebody are under separate gables. All windows on this front are double chamfered mullioned and transomed, with configurations of 10 lights, 16 lights with a king mullion, and a 2-light fire-window, all set beneath a string course. The gables feature stepped windows with three over five lights, adorned with hoodmoulds that have decorative stops. The left-hand return wall includes a window with four arch-headed lights, possibly reused from an earlier house, and a four-light double chamfered mullioned window on the first floor. The rear has two gables, each with stepped windows. The right-hand return wall shows a similar earlier roof line, marked by a string course, indicating a single-storey building. The gable entry has a basket arched doorway protected by a gabled porch, which has a shaped lintel inscribed "IMH 1693." This is located next to a two-light fire-window for the rear kitchen wing and an eight-light double chamfered mullioned window. The house has four stacks.

Inside, the former housebody features a large fireplace with a depressed Tudor arched lintel, a moulded surround, and a cyma moulded shelf that is contemporary with the porch. The rear kitchen contains a wide Tudor arched fireplace with a chamfered surround.
