Description

Milestone dating from the 19th century, located on Elland Park Road. It is a single stone with a cast iron face. The arched head displays the inscription 'ELLAND AND BRIGHOUSE ROAD, ELLAND'. On the left angled face, it reads 'ELLAND 3/4 MILE', while the right face indicates distances to 'WAKEFIELD 15 3/4 MILES, DEWSBURY 10 MILES'. This milestone is situated on a turnpike road that was part of the former 'Leeds and Elland Trust'.
