Description

Number 1 Dobson’s Yard is a house, partly dating to the 17th century with a 19th-century front. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high. The late 17th-century gable features a five-light chamfered mullioned window, with a further five-light double chamfered mullioned window above. The left-hand return wall displays remnants of three double chamfered mullioned windows. The right-hand return wall has early 19th-century fenestration, incorporating two doorways with monolithic jambs and a large, altered window. Two square-headed windows on the first floor retain glazing bars of 16 panes each. The building forms part of an intimate courtyard to the rear of the Rose and Crown public house, and is associated with the historical production of sweets.
