Description

This milestone, located on the north side of Halifax Road opposite Long Lea Mill, dates from the mid-19th century. It is a stone slab featuring a cast iron face with a carved head and an angled face. The inscription reads: 'HALIFAX AND HUDDERSFIELD ROAD, ELLAND. HUDDERSFIELD 4 1/2 MILES, ELLAND TOWN HALL 3/4 MILE, HALIFAX TOWN HALL 3 MILES'.
