Description
This milestone, dating from the mid-19th century, is located on the south side of Whitehall Road in Brighouse. It features an arch-headed stone slab that is overlaid with cast iron. The letters are in relief, with the top reading "LEEDS & WHITEHALL ROAD HIPPERHOLME." The left projecting face indicates "HALIFAX 4 MILES," while the right face states "LEEDS 11¾ MILES." This milestone stands on what was once the turnpike road of the Leeds and Whitehall Trust.
