Description

This is a milestone from the mid-19th century located adjacent to the entrance of Hopewell House. The stone has an arch shape and is overlaid with a cast iron face that displays the inscription: 'LEEDS & WHITEHALL ROAD HIPPERHOLME'. The left side of the stone indicates a distance of 'HALIFAX 3 MILES', while the right side shows 'LEEDS 12 ¾ MILES'.
