Description

This is a house, originally divided into two separate dwellings, dating back to the 17th century. It began as a two-cell house with a single-aisle extension to the rear. The building is constructed of rendered stone with a stone slate roof. The section on the right-hand side features a modern, single-storey gabled porch. Windows are of a flat-faced mullion design, although the mullions have been removed and replaced with modern glazing on both floors. Gable stacks are set slightly in from the gable ends, and a catslide roof covers the rear aisle.

Inside the right-hand bay is a larger room containing a stop-chamfered spine beam resting on a short bressumer, which is carried on side beams cantilevered out from a later stone inserted stack, creating an open square for a firehood. It’s unclear if this is an original feature; if so, it’s unusual. The division wall between the two rooms has a timber girding beam carrying another spine beam, mortised into a post that rises to support a truss. Another truss is located above the former bressumer.
