Description
The Sun Inn is a public house dated 1730, with an attached single-cell house from the late 18th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and consists of a long range of five bays. The first two bays have mid-19th century two-light sash windows on each floor. Bays three and four are symmetrical and serve as the entrance to the public house. There are quoins marking the division between bays four and five, along with a drip course. The doorway has monolithic jambs and is protected by a 20th-century single-storey glass and stone porch. On either side of the entrance are 18th-century windows with a thin central mullion, forming two-light sash windows with four panes above. Above the doorway is a decorative engraved slab that displays the date and the initials 'II', with carved faces in the upper corners and a sunken oval in the center. The added cottage features a doorway with monolithic jambs, a single-light sash window above, and a three-light mullioned window, where the center light is wider to accommodate a sash window with the same configuration above. The building has three stacks along the ridge. Attached to the front range is a two-storey early 20th-century house with concrete rendered walls and a hipped roof, which is excluded from the listing.
