Description
No. 100 Wakefield Road is a house that was formerly the vicarage for St. Matthew's Church, built around 1900. It is a large and high-quality example of Vernacular Revival architecture. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features a stone slate roof. It has two storeys, with a plinth and copings.
The main facade is designed symmetrically, featuring two gables, while also incorporating picturesque elements. On either side of a slightly recessed central bay are two-storey bay windows with splayed corners. The off-centre door is sheltered by a wide, moulded Tudor arch. Above the door is a 12-light stair window, which includes slightly chamfered mullions and transoms. The bay windows have transoms only on the ground floor, with 10 lights below and 5 above.
On the return wall, there is a semi-octagonal ingle-nook surrounding an external stack, and two additional stacks are located on the ridge. The rear of the building has a hipped roof and is simpler in design, featuring a tall window on the right and a semi-circular moulded entrance arch.
