Description

This milestone, dating from the mid-19th century, is located 200 metres on the right after Ainley Bottom on the north side of Huddersfield Road in Elland. It is made from a single slab of stone with a cast iron front. The stone has an arch-headed shape and is divided into three sections. The top section reads 'HALIFAX AND HUDDERSFIELD ROAD, ELLAND'. The left lower section states 'HALIFAX 4 MILES ELLAND TOWN HALL 1/2 MILE', while the right section indicates 'HUDDERSFIELD 3 1/2 MILES'.
