Description
The barn at Lower Rookes is a single-aisled structure built in the late 17th century, with an addition made to the left-hand end in the early 19th century. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. The barn consists of six bays and has a segmental arched entry with a gable above. There are doorways with monolithic jambs leading to aisles on either side, and there is an opposed arched entry. Some king post trusses are still present, and while the stone wall under the arcade plate remains, the aisles continue to have posts with braces and ties. The left-hand gable includes an arched cart entry with a Venetian window positioned above it.
