Description
Lower Carr Farmhouse is an early 18th-century house with alterations from the 19th century. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The north front features double-framed windows with square reveals and chamfered mullions of two lights and three lights on both floors. There are quoins and three chimney stacks. The left-hand return wall has two doorways leading to cottages, alongside monolithic jambs and a 3-light, flat-faced mullioned window from the 19th century, with a matching window above. An early 18th-century chamfered mullioned window of two lights is located in the apex of the gable. The rear has a doorway with monolithic jambs and two early 19th-century, flat-faced mullioned windows of three lights, with a matching window above. The house retains its original form facing the roadside. However, the rear windows were altered, and new windows were inserted into the east gable when the house was converted into cottages in the early 19th century.
