Description

Thorn Tree Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1620, with later alterations. It is constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. The house originally had 3 rooms at the front, featuring 2 double-chamfered window surrounds with altered sills and an inserted mullion. It is a 2-storey building with a single aisle and quoins, and includes an outshut to the rear under a cat-slide roof.

Inside, you will find stop-chamfered spine beams and floor joists, along with 2 posts supporting an arcade plate. There are king post trusses with 'V' struts, and an internal timber-framed wall separating the central housebody from the parlour. One post head features a curious carving in the shape of an "X", possibly a charm against witchcraft.
