Description
This milestone, dating from the mid-19th century, is located 500 meters beyond Ash Grove on the road towards Brighouse. It is made of a single arch-headed stone that is overlaid with cast iron. The milestone features two projecting faces with raised capitals. The top of the stone reads: "ELLAND & BRIGHOUSE ROAD SOUTHOWRAM." The left face indicates a distance of "ELLAND 1¾ MILES," while the right face shows "WAKEFIELD 14¾ MILES DEWSBURY 9 MILES." It also bears the maker's name, Brayshaw and Sons of Liversedge.
