Description

The Church of St Anne in the Grove is a church built in 1815 by Thomas Taylor of Leeds, with a later addition of a chancel. The church features a west tower with three stages, diagonal buttresses, and arched headed belfry openings adorned with 'Y' tracery. The tower is topped with an embattled parapet and crocket pinnacles. The five-bay nave has arched headed windows and is also embattled, with buttresses supporting each bay. The chancel, which has one bay, is similarly buttressed and embattled. The nave windows on the south side of the outer bays have 'Y' tracery, while those on the north side all feature 'Y' tracery.

Inside, the church has a wide, bare interior with an arch-braced roof that rises from corbels along the rafters and collar. There is a west gallery, and the baptistry to the north is semi-octagonal with a ribbed coved roof and stained glass windows. The chancel has a pointed arch flanked by arched openings, with the left side leading to a vestry and the right side forming a small chapel with space for an altar. The chancel features a flat panelled roof and an organ gallery.

Notable furnishings include a carved stone reredos, a stone pulpit with marble columns and a brass handrail and balustrading, and a carved font with a cover in the baptistry, along with another font under the west tower, which is likely original. The south side has stained glass windows, three of which were created by Ward and Hughes between 1909 and 1922. Additional features include a brass openwork lectern and choir stalls.
