Description
Cross Platts Farmhouse is a house from the early to mid 17th century, currently divided into two occupations. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone that has been rendered, and it features a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and consists of a hall and a cross-wing. The three-bay south front includes a gabled cross-wing that projects and has altered windows. The right-hand return wall has a two-light chamfered mullioned window on the first floor and a lateral stack. The second bay, which is the main body of the house, has a double chamfered mullioned window with six lights (three of the mullions have been removed) and a four-light window above it (which is missing two mullions). The third bay features a double chamfered two-light fire window that is also lacking a mullion. A hoodmould extends over both windows and has diamond label stops. Beyond the fire window, there is a doorway with a basket-arched lintel, spandrels, and chamfered composite jambs that leads into the hearth passage.
Inside, the housebody has stop-chamfered spine beams, and the rear storeroom contains diamond-set wooden mullioned windows that are only visible from inside. There is a king post truss in the smoke bay, which has mortices on the soffit for a firehood.
