Description
Law Farmhouse and the attached barn is a house that possibly dates back to 1618, as indicated by a date in the render above the entrance. The building is constructed from hammer-dressed stone, with the front rendered, and features a stone slate roof. The south front is two stories high and consists of four rooms, with the main entrance located centrally to the left of a central ridge stack. This entrance originally led to a cross passage.
All the windows are double chamfered mullioned, including a four-light window, a six-light window with a missing transom, and a four-light window. Above these are flat-faced mullion windows, mainly with four lights. The right-hand return wall has an extruded stack, which is thought to serve a parlour.
At the rear, there is a two-story early 18th-century gabled wing built over a single-storey aisle. This wing features flat-faced mullioned windows with double frames and square reveals, with four lights on the ground floor and three lights on the first floor. The building has quoins, a coped gable, and kneelers.
Inside, there is said to be evidence of a firehood bressumer. The house body includes ovolo moulded spine beams, and to the east, there is evidence of a former timbered wall with a closing truss of the 'A' strut king post type. The attached barn is of single aisle construction and has a square-headed cart entry set in a portal at the arcade, giving it a 17th-century appearance.
