Description

Ivy Houses comprises a group of four attached cottages located in Ripponden. Numbers 2 and 3 date to 1751, with numbers 1 and 4 being added in the early 19th century. The cottages are constructed from thin, hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof.

The earliest cottages (numbers 2 and 3) feature quoins and two bays of mullioned windows, each with two wide lights. They also incorporate a doorway with monolithic jambs. Numbers 1 and 4 are back-to-back and have flat-faced mullioned windows with projecting sills, also of two lights. Decorative gutter brackets are present, as are four stacks rising from the ridge. The gables are coped and feature kneelers. A decorative date plaque inscribed "F:B" set in 1751 is located on the rear elevation, positioned between the windows.
