Description
Old House Farmhouse, dated to the 1620s, is a house with an attached barn at the rear, which has been converted into a dwelling. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with ashlar quoins on the barn and a rendered finish on the house, topped with a stone slate roof. It has two storeys and an irregular plan, featuring a wide south-facing gable and a side aisle to the west. The windows throughout are double chamfered mullioned types. Notable features include a 3-light window on the first floor of the aisle with a small chamfered arch-headed light and sunken spandrels above, as well as a 6-light window with a 5-light window above it, both adorned with decorative carved label stops. The right-hand return wall displays a coped gable with kneelers and a stack that runs at right angles to the main ridge of both the house and barn, which are roofed continuously. A doorway leads to an inner door with a decorated lintel that bears the date. The single-aisled barn has a former cart entry set within a portal of the aisle and features inserted windows in its wide north gable, which includes a chamfered ventilator at the apex. There are also two additional stacks.
