Description

This is a circa 1800 row of seventeen two-storey cottages, numbered 1 to 17 Bridge Street, Thornton. The cottages are built of sandstone, designed to resemble brickwork, and have stone slate roofs with decorative brackets supporting the eaves. The first floor windows are single-light or three-light square mullion windows, set within squared surrounds. The ground floor windows are larger, with two lights and square mullions, also in squared surrounds. The doorways have squared jambs and shallow cornices supported by simple console brackets. The row of cottages forms one side of a steep, cobbled lane.
