Description

Nos 55 and 57, Market Street, Thornton, are an early 19th century pair of small sandstone cottages. No. 55 has a hipped roof covered in stone slate, with block brackets supporting the eaves. It features two square windows with stone surrounds. No. 57 was repointed in the mid-19th century and has four sash windows on the first floor. The front of the building features a pilastered shop front with narrow, round-headed, thin mullioned lights and a fascia. The rear elevation, dating to circa 1820-30, includes three square mullion windows and two single windows above the central entrance. All windows have squared surrounds and the doorway has squared jambs. The buildings are included on the list for their group value.
