Description
Nos 11 to 17 on Market Street in Thornton, built in 1830, are three-storey "back to backs" constructed from sandstone with a stone slate roof. The buildings feature "brick" dentil eaves and corniced chimneys. The elevations are designed in pairs, with a central passageway, and include plinth and sill bands on the upper floors. Each unit has two-light square mullion windows, with single-light windows positioned above the doorways, all set within squared surrounds. The doors consist of six moulded and flush panels, topped with rectangular fanlights and squared jambs. Decorative elements include carved consoles, a flush frieze with an incised diamond pattern, and projecting moulded cornices. The rear elevation is similar but has plain doorways.
